A therapeutic method of Yoga suitable for all ages and abilities

Anita is a warm and friendly local Iyengar Yoga Teacher.

The Yoga classes are graded enabling everyone to work within their own level. They range from Gentle Beginners, Beginners, General and Intermediate level.

 The essence of Yoga is to connect our body, mind and breath via focus on correct alignment of the body within the yoga postures, which ensures you are working safely, with maximum health benefits, which will help improve your physical strength, flexibility, stability and awareness, and instil a sense of wellbeing through this mindful practice of yoga. 

 Iyengar Yoga teachers are experienced teachers who are trained to make appropriate adjustments in your postural alignment (with your permission) for different physiques and for people with specific health problems.  

Classes generally start with simple poses and gradually move towards more advanced poses, ending with a period of relaxation and sometimes incorporating breathing techniques.

Mr Iyengar / Guruji – (means most respected teacher) pioneered the use of ‘props’ such as Blocks, Bricks, Yoga blankets, Yoga chairs, Back benders, Sand bags, Yoga belts and ropes etc to help attain alignment within the postures, and they also function as aids allowing beginners to experience the Yoga postures more easily and fully than might otherwise be possible without several years of practice. Props also allow elderly, injured, tired or ill students to enjoy the benefits of many Yoga postures via fully ‘supported’ methods requiring less muscular effort.

The Iyengar Certification Mark is a guarantee of excellence, clarity and depth of understanding. All teachers of Iyengar yoga are trained to very high standard, having trained for 5 years before passing a rigorous assessment to become an Introductory teacher. Anita became an Iyengar Yoga teacher in 2011 whilst studying at Sheffield Iyengar Yoga Centre with Frances Homewood. In 2012 Anita moved to Devon to immerse herself with further in-depth training with Senior 111 Iyengar Yoga teachers Gerry Chambers and Lynda Purvis over in Exmouth and Bristol, Anita Butcher in Totnes and also studying the evidence based Yoga for Healthy Backs course with Alison Trewhela in Cornwall. Anita passed her Intermediate level teacher assessment in 2017, then moved back home to Yorkshire in 2019. Anita is passionate to share with others this inspiring method of yoga and health benefits it brings, and to support and encourage her students on their personal transformative Yoga journey.

GENTLE YOGA CLASS

A very gentle slower paced class with more support, for those with back and joint problems.

RESTORATIVE AND PRANAYAMA CLASSES

A very gentle, deeply relaxing and rejuvenating Yoga Class. The postures are fully supported with focus on the breathing practices of Pranayama. Classes are practiced at the end of every month.

GUIDED FLOWING YOGA CLASS

With less teaching instructions.

EARLY MORNING STARTING SOON!

Open to all, beginners and those with some Yoga experience. Deepen your understanding of the beginners Yoga postures, and introducing more complexed postures and Inversions.

YOGA FOR HEALTHY LOWER BACKS

A gentle yoga programme that is enjoyable, uncomplicated and suitable for beginners.

This is a specialised 12-week course, which is evidence-based, it is one of the most significant and largest pieces of international yoga research (led by the University of York; funded by the charity Arthritis Research UK; published in ‘Annals of Internal Medicine’ and Spine journals.

Anita Louise Robinson

Anita started practicing Iyengar Yoga in 1991 in her neighbouring home village in Yorkshire, with an Iyengar Yoga Teacher Erika Sinclair.  The practice of Iyengar Yoga  helped to preserve the health of Anita’s hyper mobile joints and to build strength and increase flexibility, bringing balance to the musculature of her body. Which helped with her sports performance in martial arts and Marathon running. The practice of Iyengar Yoga supported Anita physically, mentally and emotionally to eventually becoming a black belt in Taekwondo. Erika was a wonderful teacher, she had a keen eye to see when one was misaligned, ensuring you were practicing safely and effectively.

The standing poses are emphasised in Iyengar Yoga. They are said to build strong legs, increase vitality and flexibility, and improve circulation, co-ordination and balance. A boon for sports people, bringing balance to the musculature of the body, where particular muscle groups are over used during sporting activities.

Practicing yoga with such wonderful guidance, focusing on body postural alignment is a mindful practice, which brings calm and great clarity. This stays with you after leaving the mat, helping to bring focus, along with the breathing practices of Pranayama which are lifelong tools to help reduce stress and anxiety and instil energy, calm and relaxation.

Yoga brings great transformation in your life. I will always be grateful to Erika who supported me on my Yoga journey from 1991  and through my Iyengar Yoga teacher training until 2012 before I moved to Devon. Erika became a good friend and Hair Client of mine, where we would spend lots of time discussing Yoga. Erica is greatly missed by so many of her pupils.
